Executive Director for Texas Gun Sense in Austin.


Grassroots gun violence prevention organization seeks talented individual to lead efforts to stop gun-related violence. Texas Gun Sense advocates common-sense, bipartisan solutions to prevent gun violence in Texas.


Reporting to the board of directors, the executive director’s primary responsibilities will include: (1) legislative advocacy during the Texas legislative session; (2) donor development and fundraising; and (3) capacity building (including long-range strategic and organizational planning) for a newly organized 501(c)(iii) organization.


Experience with legislative advocacy in the Texas Legislature is required. The ideal candidate should have experience and a record of success in at least 50% of the following areas: media and public relations (including organizing press events and social media), working with and recruiting volunteers, developing donor networks, grant-writing, working with community-based organizations, knowledge of gun-violence-prevention issues and strategies, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work with diverse groups of people, non-profit accounting, and working with a board of directors. Strong commitment to gun violence prevention required, and past experience with the issue is preferred. Spanish fluency helpful.
